New to Tesla camping, what are some things to look for? What are some must-have/great accessories?

From choosing a campsite to determining the must-have items campers need to know, we get some discussion on reddit:https://www.reddit.com/

There are a lot of factors to consider the primary one is will you have a charging point at the campsite.

If not, keep enough charge. Have the proper power connectors and remember camp mode will shut off at 20%.

You’ll need two different adapters for most campgrounds if you want to tap into their electricity at an RV site. Tesla sells the 50 amp.

If you have a 14-50 and a 5-15.What you really need is a TT-30 for the 30 amp. Most campgrounds either have 30amp or 120V (which they're both 120V but the 30amp has thicker wires so it can handle more power thus charges a little quicker). Ideally if a campground offers a 240v (NEMA 14-50) that's the one that'll charge you the fastest.

In addition to the common items such as: a mattress for resting, an adapted tailgate tent(Huge room that can be conditioned from Tesla hvac),Window covers the car, lights.Portable battery pack, camping chairs, food and water. There are also users who suggest that a car refrigerator will also make your camping happiness index high when there is still storage space available.

Tire patches and an air pump. You should always carry one, but especially while camping!

For the Ladies Female Urinal.
10 Liter MSR Dromedary Bag for water (Use if for doing dishes, showers (even for those with long hair) and heating water.

Get the Evannex sun shades.
To heat water :Fill MSR bag all the way up. Flip the sunshade black side out. Place MSR Bag atop the black EVANEEX sun shade and windshield . This makes a solar fornace capable of heating water to scalding. Heat two of these bags at once. Use one for a shower, the other put in a smaller 13 quart cooler and it will stay as a hot shower for 24 hours ready to go.

Bring paper towels and napkins to wipe off dishes before washing saves on water and soap as you need less water for each dish. Hang the MSR Bag from the passenger rear view mirror and use that tiny spout.

If you already blew your camping budget make about 6 of theses penny stoves. using scissors and they don't have to be as perfect as this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg91VsButWE

Several GFs and I have tried just about every camping mattress in Model X . I have used the larger thermarest self inflating ones, Exped Synmat Duo HL, Exped Mega Mat DUO bot the LW adn the medium, several mtress toppers in combo. The best is the exped synmat Duo LW with two thick Turkish thick 100% cotton cotton towels atop it for breathability as a mattress pad (Doubles as towels ) Then Cotton sheets, a banana republic 100% cashmere blanket and then a Rumpl down blanket $250 on top of it all. No matter how cold or hot you wont need more than that. The Matress, sheets, blanket , and comforter in its stuff sack all fit in that tiny lower cubby on the left side of the sub trunk. No one would ever know you are camping. The Synmat Duo has two separate chambers for custom tuning his & her side sleeping firmness.

Other must haves the Lightweight Down Patagonia Jacket with 800+ fill power down.
and a heavier one.
Make sure the heavy one can fit the thinner one layered

or any similar CLEAN DOWN JACKETS (Use Nikwash down wash only) When stuffed inside each other and then put in a pillow case its better than any pillow you ever used. ALL your pillow cases become your outer wear closet. And you are set for any temp from 65 degrees and windy down to -10. Plus those pillows are easy to find and are close at hand all the time.

A Yeti hopper 15 Soft cooler is useful for hauling water- keeping water warm or food cold. PLus it fits behind the passenger seat filling the gap where a pillow might fall down.
Yeti

MAJOR IMPORTANCE: Turn off reciruclate on HVAC it its on you might get dizzy particularly at higher altitudes where the partial pressure of 02 is lower.

If you want to save energy- and its cool out you can turn off the A/C and leave the fan on (Keeps power on for your fridge freezer which needs to be fit into the sub trunk area of model X after you fold the carpet forward and use a Laptop cooler plugged into its USB port to keep it cool.

Pro Tip1: Set the front air jets to blow air just below headrest height . and set rear HVAC to blow just above pillow level on low. Keeps the air circulation fresh fresh fresh,

Set a Drive profile called CAMPY. Set drivers seat forward (You can move the passenger forward from teh rear screen) Set those HVAC settings. Set DISPLAYS to NIGHT only or at sunrise the screens will be blinding, Set your desired temp, Set the security settings the way you want it. Go to camera preview and pick the camera to point towards any area of fear.
Pro Tip 2: If you pretend to exit the car by unweighting the driver seat and getting back in without putting weight on it and crawling back in or through the rear doors with Bluetooth on your phone off... you can check the outside cameras while you are in the car. SO you can tell if its a bear or raccoon....and the cameras see in the dark better than your eyes can.
Be conservative with your climate system. Nothing worse than the morning after having to limp to the nearest supercharger.
If you sleep in the car sleep head towards the trunk. You will sleep better not having the elevated seat under you. Plus it’s very booking and great with a partner (provided you aren’t oversized I suppose).
Order a power inverter that plugs into the 12v socket and spits out 120v or 220v standard house plug. Pretty critical if you have laptops or anything that requires typical power. I keep mine in the arm rest.

Be mindful of how you park. Front window is the only window that people can really see through in the day so position it accordingly. Light pollution from inside the car at night will beam out through any windows and attract attention so be mindful.

Of course, the point of feeling may be different for everyone, and if you are interested in camping, you will certainly keep going to learn everything you want! I hope all car camping enthusiasts are experiencing wonderful fun in being able to camp.
