Our Unforgettable Experience Camping with Tesla at Mount Everest in China

Preparation: Gear and Planning
Preparation is crucial when planning a camping trip to Mount Everest. First, we chose the Tesla Model Y and Model X, both upgraded long-range SUV models with strong endurance and autopilot features, perfect for long-distance travel. To ensure safety and comfort, we made the following preparations:
Camping Gear: Including mkcamp tailgate tent, self-inflating car mattress, inflatable mattress, portable table, and cooking utensils.
High-Altitude Gear: Oxygen tanks, warm clothing, and high-energy food.
Other Equipment: Portable power supply and photography gear.
Driving Tesla to Mount Everest
Our trip lasted over a month. We started from Guangzhou, China, passed through multiple provinces, entered Tibet on the famous 318 highway, and then set off from Lhasa for the grand adventure to Mount Everest. The powerful performance and intelligent navigation system of one of our Tesla Model Xs made the entire journey smooth and enjoyable. Tesla’s Supercharger network covered most of the major routes, so we didn't have to worry about range issues.
Passing through magnificent landscapes and traditional Tibetan villages, we were not only awed by nature but also experienced rich cultural atmospheres. The panoramic sunroof of the Tesla allowed us to fully enjoy the scenery while driving, and the autopilot feature made long-distance driving more relaxing.
Camping at the Foot of Mount Everest
Upon reaching the foot of Mount Everest, we chose a flat and scenic spot to set up camp. Tesla’s smart power management system ensured we had a stable power supply even in the high-altitude environment. Setting up the rooftop tent was quick and easy; within minutes, we had a comfortable resting space.
In the high-altitude environment, we paid special attention to keeping warm and eating high-energy foods. The portable stove allowed us to quickly cook hot meals to replenish our energy. At night, we lay in the tent, gazing at the stars and feeling the mystery and grandeur of Mount Everest.
Facing the Challenges of High Altitude
Camping at the foot of Mount Everest brought significant high-altitude challenges. We prepared sufficient oxygen tanks to deal with potential altitude sickness. Unfortunately, two of our team members, who did most of the physical labor and were responsible for setting up the tents, experienced shortness of breath. We recommend minimizing physical exertion when camping overnight at high altitudes. Fortunately, we had brought easy-to-set-up inflatable tents.
